RAMS EWES

Nickname: Brett
Name:  NRT Brett M5SC 026R

Sex: Ram

DOB:  13 April 2005

Twin

Brett has grown into a handsome ram, well filled out.  He is moorit solid spotted (VERY spotted) and is a really nice guy.  Because he has all recessive genes, he is an excellent choice for determining what white ewes may be hiding.  His small scurs have not been a problem.

His fleece is very nice for a ram, crimpy, lustrous, and abundant.  Brett has a nice long body and good chest.

Sex: Ewe

DOB:  7 April 2003

Lamb record: nb,1,1,1,2,2

Gerpla is a white, clear polled Icelandic ewe with a beautiful brushing of phaeomelanin.  She carries solid and moorit.  Gerpla is our "pet" ewe, enjoying scratches and treats.  She is an excellent mother and a treasured member of our flock.

Gerpla is a daughter of Iceland ram Glaer (a Flekkur grandson).

We are keeping her moorit solid Brett daughter, but her black solid Brett son is available.

Nickname: Bud

Name: VOL RAM BUD B2SC 02U
Sex:
Ram

DOB:  1 May 2008

Triplet

Bud has been a striking ram right from the start, and very spirited like his mother, Puddle.  We were so pleased to discover he inherited his mom's grey pattern.

We are so pleased to add this Navaho grandson to our breeding pen, and are willing to overlook his small horny bumps in favor of his long body and delicious fleece.

Bud's pedigree includes Iceland rams Dalur, Askur, Hunn, Mori, and Eir.

He sired some very nice lambs in 2009, and will remain in our breeding program.

Nickname: Minnie

Name:  SRX EWE B4P 792S
Sex: Ewe

DOB:  30 April 2006

Lamb record: 1,2,1

Minnie is a black mouflon, carries moorit, may carry spotting.  She is not a large ewe, but very thick in both the shoulders and the rump.  She also produces a fabulous frosted fleece.

Minnie seems to be an excellent mom, even serving as a foster mom to a 10-day-old lamb this spring after her own lamb was stillborn.  However, in her three years of breeding, she has failed to have a lamb live to yearling age.  So, we are recommending her for a fiber flock, with her abundant, unique fleece.  Although we will be sad to see Minnie go, we do have two of her half-sisters in the flock.

Nickname: BJ
Name:  VOL RAM BJ B3P 10U

Sex: Ram

DOB:  11 April 2008

Twin

BJ is a black badgerface ram lamb that joins our breeding pen this year in his father Beast's place.  His dam is Gerpla, one of our favorite ewes, and she probably contributes the recessive moorit color to BJ's genetics.

BJ has a broad skull, and a chest and back to match.  We are eager to see what he produces and how he grows in the coming year.

BJ did a great job as clean up ram in 2008, and we look forward to more of his lambs next year.

DOB:  18 April 2004

Puddle is a black grey spotted ewe, purchased in the Tongue River farm dispersal, and daughter of our own dearly departed Navaho.  We were thrilled to add another Navaho daughter to our flock.  As a bonus, Puddle has an abundant milk supply.

Her pedigree includes Iceland rams Dalur, Askur, and Hunn.

Her black solid spotted Brett son, Gigantor, is available.

Nickname: Wolfie
Name:  VOL RAM WOLFIE B4P 19U

Sex: Ram

DOB:  27 April 2008

Twin

(Wolfie is listed as a reference sire for his lambs.  He died from a severe head injury in May 2009.)

Wolfie is a handsome black mouflon ram lamb, probably carrying moorit, son of Tongue River ram SRX 954T.  He got his name in part due to his grey-frosted coloring as a young lamb, which is sometimes referred to as grouflon.  We are eager to see if he passes on this unique fleece to his offspring.

He will also contribute a nice broad chest and endearing personality to the flock.  Susan Briggs kept only the best, and this guy is a testament to the Tongue River breeding program.

Libby is a deep-bodied, solidly built black grey ewe.  She has a friendly, curious personality that we really enjoy.  She is also a very doting mom.

Libby carries moorit, and produced a solid moorit ram lamb by Brett.

We are offering her for sale to keep our flock size manageable.

Nickname: Moose

Name: VOL RAM MOOSE B5P 01U
Sex:
Ram

DOB:  19 April 2008

Triplet

Moose is the largest of Lofty's humongous triplets.  He is black solid, probably carries moorit, and definitely carries spotting.  A half-brother to Bud, above, Moose is bulky and fast-growing.  His fleece retained its good inky blackness, without fading at the tips.

Moose also has a wonderful personality - he quickly learned to cooperate on a leash and is appropriately friendly.

Moose's pedigree includes Iceland rams Faldur, Mori, and Eir.

Moose did not sire any 2009 lambs, but we look forward to 2010.

P
anda is a black mouflon spotted polled Icelandic ewe with a nice build and friendly personality.  She is the oldest sheep in the flock, but you'd never guess by looking at her.  She is lively and quick, and doesn't waste time getting to the front of the line if there might be treats!

Panda's pedigree includes AI rams Hnykill and Skreppur.  She is 3/4 AI.

Panda produced awesome black grey spotted twin ewe lambs by Bud.  We are retaining one and selling the other - buyer's choice!  With a 200% lambing record, Panda is a treasure and her offspring will prove their worth in any flock.

Nickname:  Buck

Sex: Ram

Buck is a stunning ram in every way except for those goofy scurs, which have grown into a sturdy set of small horns!  He lucked out, though, and got the chance to breed at another flock last season, so he is a proven sire.  One of the last Navaho sons, he is sure to pass on great fleece and his dam, Libby, contributes good size and build.  He is moorit grey.

He will be available for a limited time as an intact ram for $200.  He is registered.

A single born to a mom who easily raised triplets last year.  Let's just say he got PLENTY of milk.  By three months of age, he was already over 100 pounds!  He is about the size of our yearling ewes, with a long lustrous fleece.  Plus, he has not needed deworming all summer.

Tawny was added to the flock for her solid moorit coloring, although she does carry spotting.  She also has great milkiness behind her, which is a benefit to any breeding program.  Plus she's a little sweetie!

She lambed unassisted as a yearling, and has done a great job with her twin rams by Wolfie this spring.

Her pedigree includes Iceland ram Dalur.

Lofty came to us in spring 2008 from the Tongue River Farm dispersal.  In fact, Lofty held up our departure as we waited for her to finish birthing her triplets.  Mom and all three babies made the trip from Missouri to Michigan with no problem, and when we weighed the lambs at one day old they were all around 10 1/2 pounds!!  Lofty went on to raise them herself.  What a testament to this breed that a ewe can deliver and raise such big lambs unassisted.

Her pedigree includes Iceland ram Faldur.

We prize Carry's nice rump, dense fleece, and calm temperament.  Her black solid ram lamb by Bud is available.

Yearling Ewes

Nickname: Georgia
Name:  VOL EWE GEORGIA B2SP 06U

Sex: Ewe

DOB:  12 April 2008

Single

Georgia is the offspring of Ingrid and Beast, who died in summer 2008.  We sold her full sister and brother, and will be happy to keep her for our breeding flock if she doesn't sell.  She is long-bodied and produces a gorgeous white fleece despite showing spots on her skin.

Our best guess is that her pattern is grey.  She has a spot between her shoulder blades that looked more grey than cream/tan (which would have indicated she got her sire's other pattern, badgerface).  Her facial markings are typical of our Beast daughters and granddaughters.

Her pedigree includes Flekkur, Skreppur, and Vestri (a Hnykill son).

Junior got her name because she looks and acts so much like her mom, who was an escape artist.  ;-).  She is  a Brett daughter, and we are keeping her in the flock to take her mom's place.  Her mom, Lavvie, was an excellent mom even as a yearling, delivering and raising her lamb without assistance.

Junior, like her dam and her cousin Georgia, has the grey pattern as near as we can tell.  Her spotting makes it so hard to know for sure!  But she is sturdily built and has beautiful wool, so we are willing to wait and see what her lambs look like to be sure of her pattern.

DOB:  25 April 2008

Berniece is another of those mystery-pattern Beast descendants.  We are fairly sure now that she is badgerface, but those spots could be hiding grey pattern instead.  Her dam, Darling, was white so that doesn't offer us any clues!

Berniece is the last Navaho daughter ever, so she is staying in the flock to contribute those fleece and dairy genetics, regardless of her pattern.  She is also nicely built, thanks to her dam, Darling, who joined a dairy flock this year.

DOB:  25 April 2008

Triplet

Matilda was the smallest of Panda's 2008 triplets.  Due to a bout of mastitis in 2007, Panda only had half a working udder, so Matilda was bottle raised by our treasured friend, Linda and her houseful of dogs.  As a result, Matilda is very pet like and follows us around looking to be petted.

Matilda's sister and brother were both sold, so we are keeping this Brett daughter for ourselves, so she can replace her mother someday.  She was accidentally bred, and needed no assistance with her lamb.
