2010 LAMBING SEASON

RAMS EWES

Nickname: BJ
Name:  VOL RAM BJ B3P 10U

Sex: Ram

DOB:  11 April 2008

Twin

BJ is a black badgerface ram lamb that joins our breeding pen this year in his father Beast's place.  His dam is Gerpla, one of our favorite ewes, and she may have contributed the recessive moorit color to BJ's genetics.  He has produced spotted lambs, so we know he carries spotting.

BJ has a broad skull, and a chest and back to match.  We are eager to see more of what he produces.

Sex: Ewe

DOB:  23 April 2001

Lamb record:1,1,2,2,k,2,2,2,2

Luck joins us from Tongue River Farm.  She is a long-bodied, large ewe with heavy bone.

She produced handsome twin rams by BJ on April 5, 2010, which prove BJ carries spotting. We will retain one for our flock.

Her pedigree includes Iceland ram Faldur.

Name:  DL EWE M5P 369T
Sex: Ewe

DOB: 20 April 2007

Lamb record: 1,2

Tawny was added to the flock for her solid moorit coloring, although she does carry spotting.  She also has great milkiness behind her, which is a benefit to any breeding program.  Plus she's a little sweetie!

Tawny is a wonderful mother, and we are looking forward to the results of this cross.

Her pedigree includes Iceland ram Dalur.

Nickname: Roni

Name:  VOL EWE RONI B5P 16U
Sex: Ewe

DOB:  27 April 2008

Twin

Roni is such a cutie!  She was the smallest of the 2008 lambs at weaning, but she has caught up with the others.  Her fleece has washed out to a streaky near-black.

Roni had twin ram lambs by BJ on April 9, 2010.  We could not ask for a better first-time mom!  She is attentive without being overprotective, and her boys are active and happy.

Nickname: Leeh
Name:  VOL EWE LEEH B4P 04U

Sex: Ewe

DOB:  27 April 2008

Twin

Leeh is a daughter of Regal and TCE 342T, making her a half-sibling to Moose and Bud.  She is a beautiful black mouflon with a dense fleece and striking build. Her fleece has become "grouflon" much like Minnie's, though less silvery.

Her pedigree includes Iceland rams Austri, Mori, and Eir.

Now that she is grown into a yearling, I am thrilled she did not sell last year.  She is absolutely fabulous!  We are anxiously awaiting her first lambs.

Nickname: Wolfie
Name:  VOL RAM WOLFIE B4P

Sex: Ram

DOB: 2009

Twin

Wolfie is a handsome black mouflon ram lamb, carrying moorit.  He looked so much like his sire, whom we adored, we named him after him. We were glad to have Wolfie, Jr., to take his dad's place in the flock after a ramming injury led to his early demise.

Wolfie had his wool break early, and most of the fleece on his back has blown out already.

Nickname: Puddle

Name:  SRX EWE B2SP 367P
Sex: Ewe

DOB:  18 April 2004

Triplet

Lamb record: 0,1(AI),2,3,1

Puddle is a black grey spotted ewe, purchased in the Tongue River farm dispersal, and daughter of our own dearly departed Navaho.  We were thrilled to add another Navaho daughter to our flock, for that wonderful fleece.  Puddle has an abundant milk supply that leads to fast-growing lambs.

Her pedigree includes Iceland rams Dalur, Askur, and Hunn.

Nickname: Matilda

Name:  VOL EWE MATILDA M5SP 18U
Sex: Ewe

DOB:  25 April 2008

Triplet

Matilda was the smallest of Panda's 2008 triplets.  Due to a bout of mastitis in 2007, Panda only had half a working udder, so Matilda was bottle raised by our treasured friend, Linda and her houseful of dogs.  As a result, Matilda is very pet like and follows us around looking to be petted.

We are keeping this Brett daughter for ourselves, so she can replace her mother someday.  She was accidentally bred as a ewe lamb, so she is an experienced mom.

She's more spotted than she looks!  -->

Nickname: Freda
Name:  VOL EWE FREDA B2P 14U

Sex: Ewe

DOB:  28 April 2008

Twin

Freda is a lovely Beast daughter, very leggy and feminine like her dam, Carry.  She is black grey, and there is a chance she carries moorit and spotting.  Only breeding her will tell us for sure.

She is pleasant ewe with great potential.  We are offering her for sale, and are confident she will be a terrific mom.  Her fleece is beautiful and curly, but somewhat more coarse than we like for our wool flock.

Nickname: Letty

Names:  TNY
Sex: Ewe

DOB:

Letty is a striking white ewe from the dairy flock at Dancing Lamb Farm.  We are so pleased to add her premium fleece and her relaxed disposition to our flock.

Letty is shown here still in full fall fleece.  It is gorgeous, but we are looking forward to seeing what she looks like under there!

Nickname: Ginger

Names:  DL
Sex: Ewe

DOB:

Ginger is a gorgeous spicy moorit ewe from the dairy flock at Dancing Lamb Farm. She is friendly and calm, and we are so fortunate to have this dairy "keeper" in our own flock.

Ginger's fleece just makes me say "Yummy!" every time I see it.

Ginger

Nickname: Lancelot

Name: DL
Sex:
Ram

DOB:

Lancelot joins us from the flock at Dancing Lamb Farm.  He is a handsome moorit solid ram, with beautiful fleece and a calm disposition even during breeding season.  He has a clear poll, even in his second spring.

Lancelot produces a dense, soft, cork-screw curl fleece that we hope he passes on to his lambs.

Lancelot

Nickname: Minnie

Name:  SRX EWE B4P 792S
Sex: Ewe

DOB:  30 April 2006

Lamb record: 1,2,1

Minnie is a black mouflon, carries moorit, may carry spotting.  She is not a large ewe, but very thick in both the shoulders and the rump.  She also produces a fabulous frosted fleece.

Minnie is an excellent mom, even serving as a foster mom to a 10-day-old lamb last spring after her own lamb was stillborn.  We are looking forward to her lamb(s) by Lancelot!

Nickname: Junior

Name:  VOL EWE JUNIOR B2SP 17U
Sex: Ewe

DOB:  17 April 2008

Single to a one-winter

Junior got her name because she looks and acts so much like her mom, who was an escape artist.  ;-).  She is  a Brett daughter, and we are keeping her in the flock to take her mom's place.

Junior, like her dam and her cousin Georgia, has the grey pattern as near as we can tell.  Her spotting makes it so hard to know for sure!  But she is sturdily built and has beautiful wool, so we are willing to wait and see what her lambs look like to be sure of her pattern.

Nickname: Berniece
Name:  VOL EWE BERNIECE B2SP 12U

Sex: Ewe

DOB:  25 April 2008

Single to a one-winter

Berniece is another of those mystery-pattern Beast descendants.  We are fairly sure now that she is badgerface, but those spots could be hiding grey pattern instead.  Her dam, Darling, was white so that doesn't offer us any clues!

Berniece is the last Navaho daughter ever, so she is staying in the flock to contribute those fleece and dairy genetics, regardless of her pattern.  She is also nicely built, thanks to her dam, Darling, who joined a dairy flock this year.

Nickname: Jori

Names:  VOL EWE JORI B5P 15U
Sex: Ewe

DOB:  1 May 2008

Triplet

Jori is a triplet sister to Bud, one of the rams in our breeding pen.  Their dam is Puddle, making them Navaho grandkids, and their sire is TCE 342T.  Jori got the solid pattern rather than grey from her dam, carries spotting, and may carry moorit.  She has the genetics for great mothering and milkiness, not to mention delicious fleece, and we look forward to future lambs from her.

Nickname: Bud

Name: VOL RAM BUD B2SC 02U
Sex:
Ram

DOB:  1 May 2008

Triplet

Bud has been a striking ram right from the start, and very spirited like his mother, Puddle.  We were so pleased to discover he inherited his mom's grey pattern.

We are so pleased to add this Navaho grandson to our breeding pen, and are willing to overlook his small horny bumps in favor of his long body and delicious dense fleece.

Bud's pedigree includes Iceland rams Dalur, Askur, Hunn, Mori, and Eir.

He sired some very nice lambs in 2009, and will remain in our breeding program.

T
ansy also joined our flock with the Tongue River dispersal, but we had admired her as a lamb the previous fall when we purchased Minnie, her half sister.  Tansy is white, but may carry moorit, and her other pattern is probably solid.

Tansy has grown to be a large, stunning ewe.  Her fleece is wonderful, too.

Her pedigree includes Iceland ram Sonar (an Eir son).

Nickname: Moose

Name: VOL RAM MOOSE B5P 01U
Sex:

DOB:  19 April 2008

Triplet

Moose is the largest of Lofty's humongous triplets.  He is black solid, probably carries moorit, and definitely carries spotting.  A half-brother to Bud, above, Moose is bulky and fast-growing.  His fleece retained its good inky blackness, without fading at the tips.

Moose also has a wonderful personality - he quickly learned to cooperate on a leash and is appropriately friendly.

Moose's pedigree includes Iceland rams Faldur, Mori, and Eir.

Nickname: Georgia
Name:  VOL EWE GEORGIA B2SP 06U

Sex: Ewe

DOB:  12 April 2008

Single

Georgia is the offspring of Ingrid and Beast, who died in summer 2008.  She is long-bodied and produces a gorgeous white fleece despite showing spots on her skin.

Our best guess is that her pattern is grey.  She has a spot between her shoulder blades that looked more grey than cream/tan (which would have indicated she got her sire's other pattern, badgerface).  Her facial markings are typical of our Beast daughters and granddaughters.

Her pedigree includes Flekkur, Skreppur, and Vestri (a Hnykill son).

Regal joins us as a result of the Tongue River dispersal.  She produced a pleasing pair of lambs by Brett in 2009 - a moorit mouflon spotted ewe and a moorit badgerface spotted ram, which are both still in the flock.

Regal's pedigree includes Iceland rams Austri and Hunn.

We are keeping Regal's moorit mouflon ewe lamb, but her moorit badgerface spotted ram lamb is available.

Ingrid is a black spotted polled Icelandic ewe.  She is the largest ewe in the flock, twinned as a yearling, and produces an absolutely stunning, thick fleece.

Ingrid's pedigree includes Iceland rams Flekkur and Skreppur, for a total of 3/4 AI.

We are retaining Georgia,  Ingrid's daughter by Beast, for our breeding flock, and so are reluctantly offering this big, beautiful, timid girl for sale.  She has produced and raised fabulous lambs for us, and will do the same for you!

Carry is a solid black (with some silvering) ewe, and carries moorit.  She was a terrific mother to her 2009 twins by Bud, lambing and raising them unassisted.  Her 2008 daughter by Beast has grown into a lovely ewe.

We prize Carry's nice rump, dense fleece, and calm temperament.  She keeps a nice inky color, though a few silver hairs peak out.

anda is a black mouflon spotted polled Icelandic ewe with a nice build and friendly personality.  She is the oldest sheep in the flock, but you'd never guess by looking at her.  She is lively and quick, and doesn't waste time getting to the front of the line if there might be treats!

Panda's pedigree includes AI rams Hnykill and Skreppur.  She is 3/4 AI.

Panda produced awesome black grey spotted twin ewe lambs by Bud.  We are retaining one and selling the other - buyer's choice!  With a 200% lambing record, Panda is a treasure and her offspring will prove their worth in any flock.
